Outdoor Rock Fundamentals is designed for those with indoor lead climbing experience who want to progress to sport climbing outdoors. You will learn how to assess fixed protection, how to build anchors, how to escape from anchors without leaving additional personal gear, how to lower off a climb, and how to rappel with a back-up.
Develop sound technical skills for safe and efficient progression from indoor to outdoor sport climbing.
Confident identifying environmental hazards when top roping and lead climbing.
Confident wearing a helmet, harness, rock shoes, and chalk bag.
Confident belaying and tying in with a rewoven Figure 8 knot.
Confident removing quickdraws.
Confident building anchors using bolts or trees.
Comfortable clipping into quickdraws.
Comfortable threading anchors, including making a lanyard.
Comfortable rappelling with a back-up.
Comfortable tying a Clove hitch.
Comfortable tying a Prusik hitch.
Comfortable tying an Overhand knot.
Comfortable coiling a rope.
Understand tying off the belay.
Confident belaying a top rope climber.
Comfortable belaying a lead climber.
Understand clipping quickdraws.
Comfortable tying the following knots: Figure 8, Rewoven Figure 8, Figure 8 on a Bight, Overhand.
Understand tying the following hitches: Clove, Prusik.
