Ski Mountaineering: Mount Andromeda
Mount Andromeda is one of the tallest peaks in the Canadian Rockies at 11,319ft. Up on the Columbia Icefields an ascent of Andromeda starts early. We will approach the toe of the Athabasca Glacier by headlamp. The first real challenge will be navigating the complex crevassed Athabasca Glacier Icefall while avoiding the overhead danger from the seracs of Snowdome. From there we arc left towards Andromeda. From the col between Andromeda and an Little Andromeda we head up to the false summit. Depending on conditions this may be an easy boot pack. Once at the false summit all that remains is a ridge traverse to the real summit. Our guides will manage the cornice danger guiding you through safe travel terrain. From the Summit views of the Columbia Icefield, Mount Columbia, Mount Athabasca, Castleguard, the Saskatchewan and Athabasca Glacier await. Traverse back across the ridge and enjoy the 1500+ m ski decent to to the toe of the Athabasca Glacier.
