Aim
Develop the fundamentals of movement on rock with crampons and ice axes.
Objectives
- Confident identifying environmental hazards when mixed climbing
- Comfortable placing crampons accurately on rock and transferring from one foot to the other
- Comfortable placing ice axes accurately on rock and “feeling” for positive holds
- Comfortable changing between hands and ice axes
- Comfortable matching and changing hands on ice axes
- Comfortable shouldering tools
- If this course is taught during ice season, understand rock/ice transitions
Prerequisites
- Comfortable top roping 5.6 rock
- Comfortable top roping WI4
*Prerequisites are recommended for an optimum learning opportunity.
